Jockey Club supports French May exhibition of masterpieces from Centre Pompidou
06/07/2021

Over 100 surrealist masterpieces from the collection of the Centre Pompidou are being exhibited in Hong Kong with support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club. The exhibition, Mythologies: Surrealism and Beyond – Masterpieces from Centre Pompidou, is part of this year’s French May Arts Festival which the Club is supporting for the tenth year.

The exhibition is curated by the worldwide authority in the field, Didier Ottinger, Deputy Director and Curator of Centre Pompidou, Paris. The over 100 surrealist masterpieces from Centre Pompidou include selected art pieces and archive material by renowned artists such as Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Joan Miró, Max Ernst, Man Ray and Jackson Pollock. Visitors can understand the diffusion of Surrealists at the international level and get an inclusive picture of the movement’s development.

Apart from the exhibition, the Club is continuing its support for the Jockey Club Community Outreach and Arts Education Programme, which is being conducted through a hybrid format of in-person and online activities this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These include educational tours, workshops and masterclasses to reach a wider audience and expand the minds of younger generations. Some 200 complimentary tickets are also distributed to disadvantaged people in the community to enhance arts accessibility.

The Club’s support for French May reflects its strong commitment to promoting arts, culture and heritage to build a culturally vibrant Hong Kong, enrich lives and promote social inclusion. The conservation and revitalisation of the Central Police Station compound, resulting in the creation of Tai Kwun – Centre for Heritage and Art was led by the Club in partnership with the Government of the Hong Kong SAR. It is Hong Kong’s most significant project to date and won the prestigious Award of Excellence in the 2019 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
