CARE Volunteers run for social inclusion in HKJC Special Marathon
01/02/2016

For the fifth consecutive year, the Club’s Charities Trust had sponsored the annual Hong Kong Special Marathon – “iRun - Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon 2016”. Over 50 CARE Volunteers supported and provided service on event day. In addition to promoting active sport participation of people with Intellectual Disability, message of social inclusion was spread through a hug relay activity, “Hug for Inclusion”.

Leong Cheung, Executive Director of Charities and Community, and 15 CARE volunteers joined the event as pair-up runners in the 3km race. To prepare for the race and build closer rapport with their partners, the pairs went to a pre-race training in Perth Street Sports Ground in Dec 2015.

On event day (31 Jan 2016), about 40 CARE volunteers supported different parts of the event, such as the ceremony and command stage, etc. Besides, volunteers shared their love and care in “Hug for Inclusion”, in which each participant in turn hugged the next in line. Having 145 pairs of disabled and able-bodied people, the relay was announced as a new Guinness World Record for the longest hug relay.
