CARE’s Annual Appreciation Dinner 2019 to recognise the team's ongoing dedication to the community
14/06/2019

The CARE Volunteers Appreciation Scheme was launched in 2009 to recognise CARE members for their keen participation in corporate volunteering. This years’s Annual Volunteers Appreciation Ceremony was held on 14 June at Happy Valley Racecourse, with Club’s CEO Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges as the event officiating guest. Some 180 volunteers attended the ceremony and received recognition from the Club's Management.

This year, the ceremony highlighted CARE team’s contribution to promote social integration by serving the Ethnic Minorities (EM) in Hong Kong. In 2018, the CARE team launched around 40 new EM service programmes in collaboration with local NGOs and schools, including the “Enjoy Learning at Home Programme” organised by HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre, so as to facilitate ethnic minority’s communication with the local for better integration to the community.

At the ceremony, CEO expressed his heartfelt thanks to the volunteers for their keen participation and wholehearted dedication to volunteering work and being the great ambassadors of the Club. He also mentioned that eligible staff members could apply for up to two days of paid CSR leave starting from 2019, this is the Club’s new leave policy aiming to encourage staff to participate in voluntary work and fulfill corporate social responsibility (CSR).

After the presentation ceremony, CARE members enjoyed buffet dinner together. With the theme of community engagement, ethnic minority (EM) ladies and teenagers were invited to provide henna hand painting and DIY bracelets workshop. CARE members also received special soaps made with natural herbs by a group of Nepalese ladies as souvenirs. Apart from ethnic minority group, mentally challenged persons were invited to make the special balloon figures, which were well received by CARE members.

At the dinner, some of the volunteers won fabulous lucky draw prizes and some showed off their singing skills during the karaoke session. The dinner ended with happy laughter.

Looking forward, the CARE Team will continue its efforts to spread the spirit of volunteerism across the city.
