"Caring Masks DIY" – Support the Underprivileged to Combat COVID-19
28/03/2021

During the early stage of the COVID-19 outbreak, many underprivileged groups were bound to stay at home as they were unable to acquire sufficient surgical face masks. Reusable fabric masks became an alternative option for them. With thorough cleaning and the proper use of filter, fabric masks can help prolong the use of surgical masks, hence alleviating the risk of contracting the disease due to the inability to change surgical masks frequently.

CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team aimed to provide hand-made reusable face masks to those in need for enhancing their protection against the epidemic. “Caring Masks DIY” received enthusiastic support from CARE volunteers. Over 120 volunteers participated in the programme by exhibiting their skills and talents in sewing.

On March 28, CARE Team engaged in a home visit service for the elderly to spread love and care. In the visits, 700 hand-made reusable face masks, together with other goods, were distributed to the elderly singletons or doubletons in the Sham Shui Po District.

To ensure good hygiene of the reusable face masks, all masks were disinfected and repackaged before distribution.
