Over 100 Volunteers Support Anti-epidemic Supplies Kits Packing
26/03/2022

Under the "StayHomeSafe" Scheme, people tested positive and their family members must stay at home for quarantine. Many worry that they will run out of supplies. Responding to the appeal by "Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link", CARE@hkjcassisted in packing the anti-epidemic supplies kits on 19 and 26 March, providing immediate support to people under the "StayHomeSafe" Scheme.

The "Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link" hopes to convey the message that we can all contribute to fight the virus. It has been disseminating helpful information to the public and actively supporting those most impacted by the pandemic through securing and delivering essential resources to front line medical staff, the elderly and communities in need.

The service was divided into AM and PM sessions with over 100 volunteers taking part in total. Gathered in Hong Kong Army Cadets Association, volunteers were responsible for assembling and packing protective clothing, self-test kit, masks, Chinese medicine, and hand sanitisers inside the anti-epidemic supplies kits. Burying themselves in packing, volunteers were able to pack over 6,000 supplies kits which would later be distributed to volunteer organisations in different districts and finally in the hands of those in need.

Although the packaging process was not easy, there were many fun moments. Celebrity volunteer Alex Fong made a surprise visit on the 19th to help deliver the supplies. Volunteers were very excited to see him and many took photos with him. On the 26th, Crew from TVB came to help and worked with volunteers to do the packaging.

Volunteers said this service was a rare opportunity where they could play a small part in relieving distress among those impacted by the pandemic through physical actions. Although some volunteers were concerned about leaving their home for the service, they signed up knowing that what they did could cater to the pressing needs by medical professionals and people tested positive. Meeting celebrities was such an icing on the cake and added a little colour to the otherwise stressful days of fighting the virus.
