World Vision Hong Kong “Used Book Recycling Campaign 2023” - Let Knowledge Flow
04/09/2023

After a three-year hiatus, World Vision Hong Kong revived the “Used Book Recycling Campaign” this year. 40 CARE@hkjc volunteers supported the book charity sale activity by providing on-site logistic assistance.

This meaningful campaign, now in its 29th year aims to preserve knowledge by selling used books while making a positive impact on the environment through waste reduction and conservation efforts.

The book collection phase took place from 14 to 23 July 2023, and the response from the public was enthusiastic. A total of 29,280 books were collected, encompassing a variety of genres, including children's books in both Chinese and English, picture books, comics, novels, leisure books and reference books.

Subsequently, the book charity sale unfolded from 25 August to 3 September 2023 at Citywalk 2 in Tsuen Wan. The CARE volunteers actively took up various roles, supporting the cashier and crowd control, arranging the books in good condition, tidying bookshelves and managing the booths. Their onsite assistance facilitated the book enthusiasts in searching for their desired books.

The funds raised from the charity sale will be used for local projects supported by World Vision. These projects focus on supporting the education and skills training of children in Hong Kong with special educational needs (SEN). The initiatives include providing therapy for children with reading and writing difficulties, one-on-one tutoring sessions and parent-child experiential activities. The programme goal is to nurture social and life skills of these children, addressing their developmental needs.
