Hong Kong Saving Cats and Dogs Association Flag Day 2023 – Fundraising to Support the Construction of Animal Shelters
28/10/2023

The CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team (CARE Team) has been actively supporting various social welfare organisations in Hong Kong. In recent years, they have expanded their initiatives to include animal services. As a partner of the Hong Kong Saving Cats and Dogs Association (HKSCDA)*, the CARE Team wholeheartedly supported the flag-selling event organised by HKSCDA on 28 October 2023. The aim of the event was to raise funds for the construction of new shelters for stray animals. These facilities are expected to provide temporary shelter, treatment and care for over 150 homeless cats and dogs. Additionally, they will offer a peaceful home for elderly stray animals to enjoy their golden years.

The Flag Day took place in the morning of 28 October, with the theme “Love you, no matter what”. More than 70 CARE volunteers participated in this fundraising event across various districts on Hong Kong Island, including Sai Wan, Central, Sheung Wan, Wan Chai, Eastern and Southern District. The event held significant importance not only due to its charitable nature but also because it was inspiring and educational. It was heartwarming to see some volunteers supporting the Flag Day alongside their dogs, embodying their beliefs in action. Others brought their young children, providing them an early opportunity to learn more about animal rights and welfare.

The issue of stray cats and dogs deserves substantial public attention. Everyone can contribute to improving animal welfare, whether through donations, volunteer services, or promoting the concept of animal rights in our daily lives. By collectively working towards this cause, we can bring hope and compassion to more stray animals in need of assistance.

*Since its establishment in 2007, HKSCDA has been dedicated to providing services such as food, medical care, sterilisation, and adoption for stray cats and dogs. In addition to actively rescuing injured stray animals from the streets, HKSCDA also accepts abandoned small animals from the public and strives to find them reliable owners and a forever home.
