Jockey Club offers ‘Gifting for Good’ Christmas ornaments in matched donation initiative Photo release
06/12/2021

With Christmas around the corner, The Hong Kong Jockey Club invites the public to join its new online Gifting for Good initiative to support The Community Chest of Hong Kong (“the Community Chest”) and its member agencies. On 6 December 2021, Club Chairman Philip Chen and the Community Chest Campaign Committee Co-Chairman Paulo Pong took part in the lighting of the Giving Tree at the Parade Ground at Tai Kwun. The event also symbolised the official start of the initiative.

The three themed ornaments represent a Gift of Hope, a Gift of Health and a Gift of Happiness. Each is priced at HK$80 and limited to 10,000 pieces. All sales proceeds, along with a matched donation from the Club, will go to the Community Chest. Together with the people of Hong Kong, this initiative enables one act of giving to generate twice the kindness and is in line with the Club’s purpose of acting for the betterment of society. The Club’s matched donations, like all of the Club’s charity donations, is made possible by its unique integrated business model through which racing and wagering generate tax and charity support for the community.

The limited ornaments are on sale via hkjc.com/giftingforgood from 10:00 am on 7 December 2021 and can be collected at Tai Kwun from 20 December 2021.

Symbolising the Club’s Christmas greetings for the city is the 12-metre tall Giving Tree at the Parade Ground in Tai Kwun. Adorned with our special Gifting for Good ornaments that bear wishes of hope, health and happiness.

For those who purchased one of our Gifting for Good ornaments will also receive a LED wristband, which will light up in different colours in sync with the Giving Tree between 20 December 2021 and 2 January 2022, from 5:30pm to 9:30pm hourly.

The public is welcome to post photos or videos with their loved ones posing with the tree on social media and adding the hashtag #MerryChristmasHongKong to share festive wishes.

The Club has donated over HK$207 million to the Chest since 1975. This includes annual funding support to cover part of the Chest’s administrative costs, thus enabling the Chest to channel 100% of the donations it receives to beneficiaries. The Club will hold another Gifting for Good initiative over the Chinese New Year.
