Jockey Club supports new indoor swimming complex, bringing multiple benefits to students and other North District residents
19/06/2018

Sporting activities not only boost physical fitness, but can also help participants build self-confidence and develop positive beliefs, and in turn create positive values and hope in the community.

In view of the increasing population in North District, and the resulting high demand for swimming pool facilities, the Club’s Charities Trust has provided Fung Kai Public School at Sheung Shui with funding support of some HK$128 million to construct a public indoor swimming complex, so that more students and other residents in the community can enjoy the benefits of sport.

The Jockey Club Fung Kai Indoor Swimming Complex will cover a total operating area of 2,500 square metres and comprise a main pool with ten 25-metre lanes, and a preparation pool with five 15-metre lanes.

The complex is also equipped with water therapy facilities, handrails and two portable aquatic lifts that enable wheelchair users to reach the pool without barriers; a viewing gallery that can cater for more than 500 spectators; and advanced timing equipment to help schools and clubs run swimming contests.

Construction work is due to finish in two years’ time. Upon completion, the complex is expected to benefit some 10,000 people per year.
