Jockey Club supports redevelopment of Caritas Social Centre in Tsuen Wan to offer wider range of community services
09/09/2018

Caritas-Hong Kong’s social centre in Tsuen Wan has been providing much-valued social work, educational and hospitality services for the community since 1962.

As a further means of supporting community needs and development, the Club’s Charities Trust has granted Caritas-Hong Kong funding of more than HK$142 million to redevelop the centre, offering a wider range of services.  Now renamed the Caritas Jockey Club Tsuen Wan Social Service Building, it was officially opened on 8 September.

The redeveloped ten-storey building, covering about 4,600 square metres of net floor area, can now offer multiple community services and facilities such as the Caritas Jockey Club Everbright Home, which provides personal and centre-based care services for the elderly; the Caritas Jockey Club Heartspring Development Centre, which offers a wide range of family services including trauma treatment; and the Caritas Jockey Club Sensory Garden, where space and facilities are available for users to relieve stress, improve their cognitive skills and speed up recovery. Various youth, community and social work services are also offered.

Environment-friendly concepts such as green living spaces, along with various energy efficiency devices, have also been incorporated into the new building to save energy and enhance sustainability.

The new centre is expected to benefit over 217,000 individuals, families, deprived groups, people with disabilities and the elderly each year.
