Chinese major festivals are traditionally time for family gathering to celebrate and share happiness. Singleton elderly or senior couples living on their own hardly feel the joy of festive seasons. To relieve their loneliness, CARE volunteers will join hands to support the elderly visit programmes organised by Caritas Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre for the Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival.
On Saturday 27 August, 165 CARE volunteers paid visits in the morning and afternoon to about 400 elderly living in Sham Shui Po. They brought along with moon cake, a piece of fruit as well as love and care during the visits. Meanwhile, some TV celebrities including Chris Lai and Samantha Ko also joined the visit programme adding shine and happiness to the occasion.
Back to the Dragon Boat Festival of the year, another 25 and 105 volunteers participated in the elderly visit progarmmes held on 28 May and 4 June respectively. Despite the heavy rain and hot weather of the two Saturdays, volunteers fully demonstrated their sincerity throughout the event. They helped in delivering some festive food items and reporting the special needs of the elderly which are passed to the social workers for follow-up.
