According to the 2011 Hong Kong Population Census, there are around 450,000 ethnic minorities (EM) in Hong Kong, up 20% from ten years ago. Some of them regard Hong Kong as their home and some were even born in Hong Kong, while some new comers have faced difficulties in integrating in Hong Kong due to communications barrier.
In order to promote social integration, the Club's CARE volunteer team has launched a series of volunteer services for the ethnic minorities since 2013. This year, with an aim to helping EMs to integrate more fully into the wider society, the CARE team again partners the Hong Kong Children & Youth Services to roll out a new programme including home visits to EM families and outings with them. Through home visits and outings, volunteers can build a closer relationship with EM families, hence help enhance EM’s capacity in problem solving and adjustment in Hong Kong.
