2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to our Motherland as well as the setup of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). To celebrate this special occasion, Home Affairs Department has launched a district-wide progarmme for visiting single elderly or elder couples living alone, aiming to promote care for the seniors. Volunteers are recruited through district’s welfare organisations to carry out the visit and deliver a 20th Anniversary goodie bag to the elders at the same time. Both Caritas Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre (Shamshuipo) and Caritas District Elderly Centre - Yuen Long (Tin Chak Centre) are invited to support this programme. Being a close partner of these two centres, the CARE Volunteer Team also helped recruited volunteers to assist in this good cause.
In the Saturday afternoon of 20 May 2017, almost a hundred CARE volunteers joined force with volunteers from Caritas Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre (Shamshuipo) to pay visit to elderly households, bringing care and the 20th Anniversary goodie bag to the elders as well as some festive food since the Dragon Boat Festival was just around the corner. On 10 June 2017 (Saturday), another 71 and 46 CARE volunteers with their friends or family members spent the whole morning and afternoon respectively for the elderly visit in Tin Shui Wai, sharing love and joy of this special celebration.
