For years, the Club has been working hard on building a harmonious society with our community partners. Since 2015, the Club has launched the Elderly Lunch Programme to express its gratitude to the senior citizens in Hong Kong. In view of the encouraging responses from the community, the Club organised another three elderly lunches during the Riding High Together Festival this year, inviting some 700 elders from Sha Tin, Wan Chai, Central and Western district to pay visit to Sha Tin Racecourse and enjoy lunch together.
With the full support of District Councils and District Offices of Sha Tin, Wan Chai, Central and Western, three elderly lunches were successfully held from 30 March to 1 April 2018, around 90 CARE volunteers participated and helped out in the three-day event.
Accompanied by CARE volunteers, all elderly guests joined a pre-lunch guided tour about the operation and history of Sha Tin Racecourse, led by the Club’s graduate trainees and JC scholars, then proceeded to the lunch venue after a photo-taking session at the Winning Arch.
During the lunch, a performance by CARE Chinese Opera Team and the kids from Cha Duk Chang Children's Cantonese Opera Association was arranged to promote cross-generation harmony. In addition, to add festivity to the lunch, elderly guests were invited to join hands with the Club's Stewards, management and district leaders to make Low Sugar Longevity Buns on stage, with the help of the Club's chef.
At the Elderly Lunch for Sha Tin District, the Club’s Deputy Chairman Anthony Chow mentioned that Sha Tin Racecourse were constructed 40 years ago, which was the same year as the first public housing estate in Sha Tin ,Lek Yuen Estate, was built. It fully illustrated that the Club has grown hand-in-hand with Sha Tin. He promised that the Club would work together with district stakeholders for the betterment of the society.
