Post Typhoon Clean-ups
30/09/2018

Typhoon Mangkhut rammed into Hong Kong on 16 September and caused significant damages. Over 100 volunteers responded to the call of CARE team to clean up the trash and fallen trees in Tin Shui Wai, Sha Tin Wai, Mei Lam Estate and Lai Chi Wo in the hopes of resuming order and helping out the cleaners.

On 20 September, together with the staff of Yuen Long District Council and Food and Environment Hygiene Department, CARE volunteers cleaned up the fallen trees in Tin Shui Wai to facilitate the reopening of public facilities. On 21 September, 16 CARE volunteers cleaned up the fallen trees outside the Sha Tin Caritas Elderly Centre and re-stored their garden. Staff and elders from the centre were all thankful for the volunteers’ help. With the effort of staff from the Mei Lam Estate Property Management Company and our volunteers on 22 September, the roads in Mei Lam Estate were almost cleared for use. On 30 September, 58 CARE volunteers joined hands with Hong Kong Countryside Foundation and the Conservancy Association to remove flood wastes on the farmland in Lai Chi Wo.

Although Typhoon Mangkhut had caused chaos and extensive damages, Hong Kong had resumed normal operation at the earliest possible opportunity because of the effort of all cleaners and volunteers. The Club would like to thank all CARE volunteers again for their act of kindness.
