Chinese New Year is a holiday filled with celebrations with families and friends. However, have you thought about what it would be like to spend Chinese New Year in Hong Kong as a non-Chinese?
In order to introduce our New Year culture to ethnic groups, about 40 CARE volunteers took part in "Hong Kong Jockey Club Chinese New Year Celebration for All", a Club-sponsored event organised by Lam Tsuen Wishing Square on 12 February. Over 1,000 ethnic minority participants were invited to the event. Volunteers enjoyed poon choi banquet with ethnic minority participants and took the chance to share stories about Chinese New Year with them. They also experienced Chinese New Year traditions together, such as throwing wishing placards onto the famous well-wishing tree and floating lotus lanterns in the wishing pool. Both parties had a fun time celebrating the Chinese New Year. It was extra meaningful for CARE volunteers as they chose to spend the festive season by spreading the spirit of giving.
