Mid-Autumn Festival is a yearly traditional time for families to gather and reunite, yet singleton elderly or senior couples living on their own hardly share the happiness. According to the data of the Census and Statistics Department in 2017, the number of single elderly has increased to approximately 150,000. Elderly living alone would probably lead to health problems in the long run.
To address the needs of single elderly and spread love, CARE Volunteer Team had been participating in the festive elderly visit programme for four consecutive years, organised by the Caritas Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre. On 7 September, 170 CARE volunteers were divided into two groups to pay home visits in morning and afternoon sessions, with an aim to share warmth and joy with the elderly by delivering goody bags with mooncakes and fresh fruits.
