This year, CARE Team continued to support the "Virtual Walk for The Green Earth 2021", organised by The Green Earth (TGE), which aims at raising funds to support TGE’s campaigns and education programmes that promote a "zero-waste" culture in society.

Owing to the fourth wave of the pandemic, the originally face-to-face night walk at Hong Kong Tai Tam Reservoir was changed into an online format, so as to reduce the risk of social gathering. However, it did not hinder the enthusiastic CARE volunteers from participating in this meaningful fundraising event. A total of 103 CARE volunteers, family and friends joined the virtual walk this year. They were divided into groups of 19 small teams and 4 family teams respectively. Volunteers had to complete a race distance of 8km along Tai Tam or a self-selected route between 16 January and 16 February 2021.

In order to allow the participants to enjoy nature via the night walk just as much as originally planned, there were various special virtual activities in form of live streaming, including ‘Forest Healing with Sound Navigation’, ‘Stargazing with you’, ‘Online Night Safari in Hong Kong’, etc.

By engaging in the walk and virtual activities, volunteers could take a rest from fighting against the pandemic and learn more about our beautiful nature. Most importantly, volunteers felt delighted to join this meaningful event to raise public awareness of environmental protection issues.
