CARE@hkjc is a passionate supporter of animal welfare. Our volunteers continually assist different organisations to take care of stray cats and dogs, or support adoption services. To further this cause, the CARE team supported the monthly cleaning operation of the kennels of House of Joy and Mercy (HJM). It aimed to provide a cleaner living environment for dogs and allow the volunteers to learn how to take care of animals. Throughout the interactions, it is hoped to help build the dogs' trust with people.
HJM was established in 2015. It is a registered charitable organisation focusing on providing shelters for injured, sterilised and weak stray dogs in Hong Kong. On March 20, 20 CARE volunteers supported the monthly cleaning of HJM’s kennels to provide a more comfortable and tidy living environment for the dogs. Volunteers also bathed the dogs to keep them clean. In addition, some helped prepare nutritious meals for the dogs while some fed them to take good care of their diet. The volunteers also walked the dogs to help them stay physically and mentally healthy.
The seemingly simple tasks of taking care of the dogs actually required the caregivers to give unconditional love and dedication. In this event, the CARE volunteers not only shared some happy moments with the adorable dogs, but they also learned about the responsibility of keeping a pet.
