CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team is a strong supporter of animal welfare. Our volunteers continually assist different organisations to take care of stray cats and dogs, or support adoption services. Apart from supporting the monthly cleaning operation of the kennel of House of Joy and Mercy (HJM), CARE Team also assisted in HJM Adoption Day to seek opportunities for dog rehoming. The event was held in Ma On Shan and Tseung Kwan O from 6 to 14 July and 16 to 28 July 2021 respectively.
HJM is a registered charitable organisation focusing on providing shelters for injured, sterilised, and weak stray dogs in Hong Kong, predominantly in the North East New Territories. Although there is no doubt that the rescued dogs can receive good care at the shelter home, HJM generally considers rehoming as the ultimate goal for them if the situation allows.
Throughout the three-week HJM Adoption Day event, around 50 CARE volunteers played a part along with their family members and friends. Volunteers mainly provided on-site logistics support, including preventive anti-epidemic measures arrangement, crowd control at the interactive booth, leaflet distribution, and adoption service introduction.
It is not surprising that among these volunteers, some familiar faces have also enthusiastically engaged in other animal services organised by CARE Team. From the cleaning of a dog kennel to the public education event concerning dog adoption, it is impressive that CARE volunteers have spared no effort to help the animals in need and advocate animal welfare.
