In recent years, CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team has been committed to multidimensional aspects of animal welfare and rights. From assisting with pet adoption day to cleaning of cattery and kennel, CARE volunteers who concern about animal welfare have spared no effort in engaging in these animal services to enhance the quality of life for stray animals.
In the rainy summer season, plants can grow luxuriantly, and the wet soil favours the breeding of snakes, rats, and mosquitoes. In view of excessive plant growth, the shelter of the Hong Kong Rescue Cats and Dogs Association (HKSCDA) based in Tai Lam, was in urgent need of kennel weeding. On 3 July, 20 CARE volunteers embarked on a mission to remove unwanted wild plants near the shelter and offer logistic support, in an effort to provide a more spacious and safer environment for the dogs to move around.
The event went so smoothly that it did not take too long for CARE volunteers to successfully weed out a substantial amount of unwanted wild plants and grass, with water boots, gloves, and simple weeding tools. After the weeding, volunteers spent some quality time walking the dogs to let them enjoy the safe and comfortable space.
