Mid-Autumn Festival Towel Bunny Workshop X Caritas Mid-Autumn Festival Elderly Visit
11/09/2021

Can you imagine how the combination of towels, rubber bands, and some decorations would put a smile on everyone’s face? To share the joy of the Mid-Autumn Festival with the community, CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team unlocked their creativity and turned these materials into cute towel bunnies. These hand-made towel bunnies were given away in the subsequent Mid-Autumn Festival elderly visit, giving our blessings to the elders with a festive touch.

Two face-to-face sessions and one online session of the Mid-Autumn Festival Towel Bunny Workshop were held on 27, 30, and 31 August 2021 respectively, to briefly introduce the skills of making the towel bunnies. The workshop has received overwhelming support from more than 120 CARE volunteers, with a total of 1600 towel bunnies made.

These hand-made towel bunnies were then distributed to the needy in the Caritas Mid-Autumn Festival Elderly Visit on 11 September 2021. Organised by the Caritas - Hong Kong - Cheng Shing Fung District Elderly Centre (Sham Shui Po), the visit aimed to care for the elderly singletons or doubletons living in Sham Shui Po area during the Mid-Autumn Festival. CARE volunteers also learnt about the living conditions of the elderly and reported their difficulties to the Elderly Centre.

There were more than 160 CARE volunteers participated in the visit along with their families and friends, benefitting about 700 elderly people. Considering the pandemic situation, volunteers were divided into groups of two or three with specific visit timeslots, to reduce the infection risk. During the visit, apart from caring for the elderly, CARE volunteers also supported their fundamental daily needs by distributing goodies bags to them, which included mooncakes, daily necessities, and towel bunnies.
