In 2021, CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team continued to proactively open up possibilities for social service programmes. In terms of animal services, CARE Team established a new partnership with the Hong Kong Rabbit Society (HKRS), aiming to achieve the mutual goal of building an animal-inclusive society. The objectives of the HKRS are to fight for living rights, respect, and concerns for rabbits and to minimise the number of abandonment. It operates a shelter for abandoned rabbits and organises activities to promote rabbit adoption, as well as knowledge and responsibilities of raising rabbits.
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, online walk became an alternative for many traditional fundraising walkathons, breaking the barriers of time and space. On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team mobilised 215 CARE volunteers to support the “Mid-Autumn Festival Rabbits Online Run” organised by the HKRS. The event aimed to encourage pet owners and individuals to keep exercising and walking their pets during the pandemic, and raising awareness of abandoned rabbits at the same time.
To join this fundraising event for the rehoming of abandoned rabbits, volunteers had to complete a running/walking distance of 5km within the designated event period (from 1 to 15 September 2021) and upload the record or screen capture to the official website. Some CARE volunteers even participated in the run with their pets to enjoy a relaxing and pleasant exercising time.
As a token of gratitude to the participants, limited edition finisher souvenir packs were awarded to participants who completed the run, including T-shirts, sports towels, sports masks, etc. With these excellent sports accessories, it is hoped that the participants will be encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle through exercising even under the pandemic.
