The Club has been actively supporting various community projects and cooperating with local organisations to serve different social sectors in the society. “Together We Care 2021”, an annual visit organised by Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association (HKEAA), has stepped into the 17th year. The event aimed at spreading warmth and care to the needy in the community by paying them home visits and giving them gifts of goodie bags. Following the success of previous years, the Club remained the main sponsor of the event and the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team fully supported the event by encouraging CARE volunteers to take part in pre-packing the goodie bags with local elite athletes and visiting the elderly and those families in need.
“Together We Care 2021” was held in November 2021, spreading warmth and care in this cold season to about 2,800 single living and low-income families in the community. On 13 November, 20 CARE volunteers helped with the goodie bags packing at Po Leung Kuk Riverain Primary School. In line with the event theme of "Community Care in the Neighbourhood", the goodie bags not only included food and daily necessities such as rice, crackers, herbal ointment, canned soup, calendars sponsored by the Club, but also anti-epidemic supplies like masks and hand sanitisers sponsored by other organisations. In addition, greeting cards written by eight active and retired elite athletes and coaches in Hong Kong, as well as parents and students of Po Leung Kuk Riverain Primary School were also included in the goodie bags. It is hoped that these gifts could answer the needs of the beneficiary families from multiple perspectives.
A total of around 1400 volunteers participated in the home visit day on 14 November, including the representatives of HKEAA, CARE Team, and volunteers of other organisations. After completing the opening ceremony at Po Leung Kuk Riverain Primary School, they were divided into groups and visited the households of elderly singletons and low-income families in 12 districts in Hong Kong, namely Sai Wan, Sai Wan Ho, Ho Man Tin, Wong Tai Sin, Ngau Tau Kok, Sham Shui Po, Tsing Yi, North District, Sha Tin, Tseung Kwan O, Tin Shui Wai, and Tuen Mun.
As officiating guests at the opening ceremony, Raymond Tam, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs of the Club, and representatives of elite athletes jointly paid a visit to Hak Pai Tsai Village in Lung Yeuk Tau after the ceremony. They believed that this altruistic act would promote a caring spirit in society and encourage the community involvement of elite athletes as well as corporate and community volunteers. On the other hand, 100 CARE volunteers split into groups and visited families in Sheung Shui and Fanling, to deliver the goodie bags and send the warmest care to the needy, hoping to connect the community to fight against the difficult situations during the pandemic.
