Hand-Written Christmas Cards for the Elderly in Residential Care Homes
09/12/2022

On 9 December 2022, CARE@hkjc took part in a Christmas Card Writing activity at the lobby of the Jockey Club Headquarters to send warm Christmas wishes to the elderly.

In the age of rapid technological advancement, people can make use of various communication software to facilitate communication, but it would not be as heartwarming as a handwritten card. Partnered with the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, the CARE team provided Christmas cards for our volunteers to write their greetings and wishes, sending their love and care to the elderly in the residential care homes. It was hoped that the handwritten Christmas cards could bring warmth to them during the cold festive season.

It has become a tradition for Hong Kong people to count down to Christmas on Christmas Eve, when people flock to the streets to welcome the joyful day with their friends, family members or lovers. With this in mind, the volunteers were taken a picture with their handwritten cards, which were sent to the elderly to give a sense of companionship.
