With the society returning to normalcy gradually, the Hong Kong Flower Show 2023 (Flower Show) organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) was resumed to run at Victoria Park between 10 and 19 March 2023 after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic. This year, some 400,000 flowering plants were on display, with a rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities being held for visitors of all ages. As the major sponsor since 2014, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has supported the Flower Show for the 11th consecutive year. Invited by the LCSD, over 160 CARE volunteers attended and supported two programmes under the Flower Show, namely Jockey Club Community Green Playground (Green Playground) and the Green Recycling Day.

To raise the environmental awareness of our younger generations, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has sponsored the Green Playground for the 5th consecutive year, in which age-appropriate facilities and games in theme of nature and conservation were available for children and their families during the two weekends. On 11 and 18 March, some 100 trained CARE volunteers joined the Green Playground held on the Central Lawn of Victoria Park as Game Facilitators, providing on-site support, as well as disseminating various green messages to the children while guiding them around different playground equipment that were partly made from recycled and reused materials.

The Green Recycling Day activities for the Flower Show took place on 20 and 21 March upon the conclusion of the Flower Show to reinforce green measures and reduce waste. Some 50 trained CARE volunteers supported the event as Green Ambassadors to assist in separating and collecting reusable and recyclable materials at the showground for waste reduction on 20 March. Flowers suitable for replanting and landscape displays suitable for reuse were relocated to the LCSD parks and amenity areas for public enjoyment, while pots of flowers suitable for replanting were distributed to the public. Collected wilted flowers were delivered to the Animal Waste Composting Plant in Ngau Tam Mei for recycling into organic compost. In addition, the volunteers joined a workshop on organic planting, in which they experienced transplanting seedlings of Baby Bok Choy to pots and learnt tips for taking care of the seedlings that they brought home.
