Moving Forward After the Pandemic – CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team 2022/23 Highlight Video of Services
17/11/2023

Since its establishment in November 2005, the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team ("CARE Team") has actively supported various vulnerable groups in the community through a wide range of community activities. As the COVID-19 situation improves, the CARE Team continues to forge ahead. In addition to continuing district-based services, the team is actively engaging in diverse volunteer activities to meet the evolving needs of different service users.

Reflecting on the past service year, CARE volunteers played a crucial role in participating in 490 service programmes in 2022/23. A variety of beneficiaries have been served, including low-income families, elderly individuals living alone, ethnic minorities, stray animals, individuals with intellectual disabilities, children with special educational needs (SEN), and more. Both physical and remote activities were employed.

To showcase the volunteer services of the past year and share insights from volunteer representatives, the team has prepared a retrospective video. It is hoped that more colleagues will join the team on this volunteerism journey and embrace the spirit of spreading love and care to those in need.

Among the community services provided, home visits played a significant role. Initiatives such as "Together We Care 2022" and "CARE Packs for Underprivileged Families" allowed CARE volunteers to offer care and daily necessities to grassroots families and elderly individuals living alone, attending to their psychological and practical needs. In the "YWCA SEN Parental Support Programme", parents of children with special educational needs (SEN) expressed gratitude for the patient companionship provided by volunteers, which helped alleviate their caregiving pressures.

In recent years, the CARE Team has also actively developed services for ethnic minorities and animals. In the "26th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships Community Activity", CARE volunteers engaged in bowling experiences with ethnic minority children, fostering inclusion and creating shared moments. During the "Dog Adoption Day", ethnic minority youth took an active role as volunteers, joining the animal-loving CARE volunteers in supporting the dog adoption event. The CARE Team’s dedication to caring for animals extended beyond cats and dogs to include other animals in need. For instance, through the "Home Bunny Home" initiative, CARE volunteers provided care and arranged suitable living environments for rabbits, ensuring they received the appropriate care.

To encourage more colleagues to engage in volunteer services, the "CARE@hkjc FUN Day" provided a relaxed and joyful environment for CARE volunteers to exchange their service experiences and reflections. This event aimed to inspire employees, both current and retired, who are interested in volunteering, to join the ranks of volunteers.

Looking ahead, the CARE Team will continue to promote and develop diverse volunteer activities, fulfilling our mission to serve the community and build a better society.
