The Club actively supports various community projects and co-operates with local organisations to serve different sectors of society. Now in its 19th year, “Together We Care 2023”, an annual event organised by the Hong Kong Elite Athletes Association (HKEAA), continues its mission of spreading warmth and care to those in need. The event involves home visits and distribution of goody bags. Building on the success of previous years, the Club remains the main sponsor, with the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team providing full support. CARE volunteers have participated in pre-packing the goody bags alongside local elite athletes and visited the elderly and families in need.
“Together We Care 2023” took place in November 2023, bringing warmth and care during the cold season to about 2,800 single individuals and low-income families in the community. On 16 November, eight CARE volunteers participated in mask packing. On 18 November, the Club’s jockeys Karis Teetan and Alexis Badel joined 40 other CARE volunteers at Po Leung Kuk Riverain Primary School to help with packing of goody bags. In line with the event’s theme of “Jointly Spreading Warmth in the Community”, the goody bags included food and daily necessities such as rice, crackers, quick cook oatmeal, herbal ointment, creamed corn and calendars sponsored by the Club, as well as anti-epidemic supplies like masks, soaps and hand sanitisers sponsored by other organisations. In addition, greeting cards written by three Hong Kong elite athletes were included, aiming to address the various needs of the beneficiary families.
On 19 November, a total of around 1,400 volunteers, including representatives from HKEAA, the CARE Team, and volunteers from other organisations, participated in the home visit day. After the opening ceremony at Po Leung Kuk Riverain Primary School, they were divided into groups and visited households of singletons and low-income families in 13 districts across Hong Kong, including Sai Wan, Sai Wan Ho, Ho Man Tin, Wong Tai Sin, Ngau Tau Kok, Sham Shui Po, Tsing Yi, North District, Sha Tin, Tseung Kwan O, Tin Shui Wai, Tuen Mun and the Islands District, to spread love and care.
As one of the officiating guests at the opening ceremony, the Club’s Executive Director, Corporate Affairs Raymond Tam and the Club’s Executive Director, Customer Strategy, Insights, and Innovation Dennis Hau joined the representatives of elite athletes in visiting households in Queens Hill Estate after the ceremony. They believed that this act of altruism would foster a caring spirit in society and encourage the involvement of elite athletes, as well as corporate and community volunteers. Meanwhile, another group of 140 CARE volunteers visited families in Fanling, delivering the goody bags and sharing heartfelt care with those in need, with the aim of fostering community connections.
