The Green Earth Night Walk 2024: Forest. Mountain. Night Together
27/01/2024

The CARE Volunteer Team is committed to environmental protection efforts. On 27 January 2024, 20 CARE Volunteers participated in "The Green Earth Night Walk 2024," a significant fundraising event organised by The Green Earth (“TGE”). The funds raised would support TGE's campaigns and educational programmes aimed at promoting a "zero-waste" culture in society.

The Night Walk began at Rotary Park, proceeded through Tai Mo Shan Road Top Car Park and Tai Mo Shan Weather Radar Station, and then returned to Rotary Park, covering a distance of approximately 9 kilometres. This year's theme, "Forest. Mountain. Night Together," offered participants an opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, appreciate nature's beauty and raise awareness about the importance of cherishing the Earth. The volunteers embarked on a journey from day to night, lasting about four to five hours, enjoying a low-carbon and waste-reducing adventure.

During the exploration of Tai Mo Shan, the volunteers were accompanied by an environmental education team that explained the principle of Leave No Trace. Participants immersed themselves in the forest, mountain, and night experiences, enjoying scenic views and encountering various photography spots along the way. As night fell, multiple astronomical telescopes were set up at the stargazing station, allowing participants to explore the stars with the guidance of astronomy experts. At the endpoint, participants had the opportunity to engage in light painting photography and experience the tranquil sounds of nature, enhancing their sensory connection with the beauty of the environment.

The volunteers expressed the meaningfulness of the event to them. As avid hikers, some volunteers noted the occasional presence of litter along hiking trails in recent years. Through active participation in environmental conservation activities, they aimed to raise awareness of waste reduction at the source and other environmental initiatives. By adopting a lifestyle that minimises the use of disposable items and taking responsibility for their waste, they believed they could contribute to preserving the vitality of nature.
