The Antiquities and Monuments Office (“AMO”) held the “National Day X Heritage Funfair” (“Funfair”) at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre (“HDC”) in Tsim Sha Tsui on the National Day (1 October 2024). The Funfair aimed to deepen public appreciation of historical architecture and cultural relics while fostering an understanding of our historical treasures.
At the Funfair, 60 members of the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team played a crucial role in providing onsite support, which ensured the smooth operation of programmes and activities. Participants explored the HDC with specially designed folders to collect stamps by completing designated tasks, which could be exchanged for souvenirs. These folders became cherished keepsakes filled with drawings, stickers and notes, capturing participants’ exploration and learning about heritage and monuments.
The CARE volunteers actively supported the “Five-star Guided Tours” and the “Appreciating the Antiques – Treasure Hunt in the Galleries” by distributing materials, issuing task stamps and responding to participants’ queries under the guidance of AMO staff. During the “Echoes Through Time: A 75-minute Concert of Chime Bells & Stone Chimes”, the CARE volunteers ensured a smooth experience for participants, allowing them to immerse themselves in the beautiful melodies of ancient music. Additionally, at various activity booths, such as the “Colouring Monuments”, “Make Your Own Badges with Relics and Monuments” workshop and “Cat Curator” keychain-making workshop, the CARE volunteers assisted participants in creating unique souvenirs to take home. The CARE volunteers also served as reception and outreach assistants, helping with promotion and guiding participants on how to capture memorable moments in various corners of the site, as well as encouraging them to enjoy interactive activities like “Snapshots in the HDC” and “Cute Cocky Cat! Gotcha!”.
Furthermore, 10 CARE Painters showcased their talent at the “Amazing Face Painting” booth, offering popular graphics such as pandas, rainbow bracelets and gradient flowers, which were a hit among children and adults, adding a touch of joy and colour to the Funfair.
The Funfair succeeded in creating a joyful atmosphere and served as a powerful reminder that our heritage and monuments require collective effort and attention to be preserved for future generations.
