Crafting Comfort: Club's IT Colleagues Support SPCA's Animal Welfare Initiatives
06/11/2024

The CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team has partnered with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (“SPCA”) Hong Kong to host a series of workshops focused on enhancing the welfare of adoptable animals. Through this collaboration, CARE volunteers have engaged in making pet toys, demonstrating their commitment to animal rights and welfare.

Each year, the SPCA rescues hundreds of animals, many of whom are suitable for rehoming at their Adoption Centres. However, these animals often experience long waiting periods before finding their forever homes. During this time, toys play a vital role in providing comfort and stimulation, helping them maintain mental stability.

On 29 August, 2 September, and 6 November 2024, the Club's IT colleagues visited the SPCA Tsing Yi Centre. During the workshops, they crafted pet toys, including cardboard cat scratchers and tug toys for dogs, using recycled materials such as old T-shirts, toilet paper tubes, and cardboard boxes. After the workshops, they visited the SPCA Tsing Yi Adoption Centre, where they interacted with the animals, fostering trust and enhancing the animals' chances of adoption. IT colleagues also experienced a dog training session and a VIP tour of the immersive classroom and backhouse facilities led by SPCA management. This initiative provided a meaningful opportunity for them to enjoy a fulfilling afternoon with the animals in need.

These activities not only provided hands-on experience but also deepened participants' understanding and appreciation of animal welfare. The CARE Team looks forward to continuing their support for animal welfare initiatives in the future and making a positive impact within the community.
