The Hong Kong Jockey Club has been a steadfast supporter of local sports development, demonstrating its commitment through its active support of events like the Para Athletics Championships. Organised by the Sports Association for the Physically Disabled of Hong Kong, China, this annual event took place on 14 December 2024. It brought together students from various special schools, allowing them to experience the joy of sports.
The Club mobilised 34 members of CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team to assist in the event, responsible for venue setup, scorekeeping and crowd management. Despite the freezing weather on the day, the volunteers worked tirelessly to foster a joyful and vibrant atmosphere for over 200 students from eight local special schools. Freely Cheng, Head of External Affairs, Sally Tse, Executive Manager, External Affairs and Vivian Kong, Assistant Manager, External Affairs of The Hong Kong Jockey Club were also there to cheer on the students, kick off the relay races and present medals, bringing the competition’s atmosphere to a climax.
The volunteers were deeply moved by the resilience and determination of the physically disabled students, who put forth their best efforts to overcome challenges and participate in running and jumping activities like able-bodied individuals.
