The TWGHs "iRun" – The Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon 2025 was held on 12 January at Central and Western District Promenade and Lung Wo Road. The annual “iRun” event aims to enhance public awareness and understanding of individuals with special needs through sport. Nearly 4,700 runners with intellectual disabilities and their pair-up partners participated in this year’s “iRun”.
Since 2012, the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team has been a steadfast supporter of iRun. This year, 15 volunteers joined as pair-up runners for the three km race to share the joy of running. Prior to the event, training was conducted to build rapport, spreading the message of social inclusion through running and interaction. Additionally, around 50 CARE volunteers provided on-site support and logistics assistance during the event, ensuring that the event ran smoothly.
This is the 14th year The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has supported the “iRun”, aiming to encourage individuals with varying abilities and the general public to embrace physical activity and actively foster social inclusion.
The iRun not only benefitted the participants but also offered a unique experience for the volunteers. By partnering with individuals with special needs, running and interacting with them, and assisting them in the race, volunteers gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities, fostering empathy and compassion.
