The Green Earth Night Walk 2025: embrace the forest, feel the nature
15/02/2025

On 15 February 2025, the CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team actively supported the "Green Earth Night Walk 2025," organised by The Green Earth, to contribute to environmental protection. This event is The Green Earth's annual large-scale fundraising initiative, with proceeds supporting the organisation's environmental efforts and promoting a "zero-waste" lifestyle. This year's theme is "embrace the forest, feel the nature", allowing participants to escape the city's hectic pace and appreciate the beauty of nature. With various low-carbon and waste reduction activities along the route, the event educates the public on how to take practical actions against environmental challenges.

On the day, 18 CARE volunteers and their family members participated in a 10-kilometre fundraising walk. The route started at Pak Tam Chung PHAB Site, passed through Section 1 of the MacLehose Trail to the West Dam of High Island Reservoir, and then returned the same way. The CARE volunteers enjoyed a four-hour low-carbon journey, exploring Pak Tam Chung in Sai Kung from day into night.

The CARE volunteers participated in various public education stations along the way, deepening their understanding of the ecosystem through sensory immersion and nature exploration. This "leave no trace" journey facilitated the participants’ learning about the importance of respecting nature and promoting sustainable trails. Nature Healing Play Station encouraged everyone to engage their senses, let go of daily stresses and reconnect with the natural environment for relaxation. CARE volunteers shared that "barefoot experience" and "stargazing tour" were the most insightful activities. The barefoot experience allowed them to truly feel the ground beneath their feet, fostering a connection with nature and providing practical foot care knowledge. Meanwhile, the stargazing tour, using telescopes to observe the sun before sunset and Jupiter in the night sky, was a novel experience that also raised public awareness of light pollution.

The "Green Earth Night Walk 2025" promoted the zero-waste concept by encouraging participants to bring reusable utensils and water bottles while enjoying delicate vegetarian meals, thereby experiencing a low-carbon lifestyle. Beyond the healing power of nature, the CARE volunteers expressed hope that more people would show understanding and interest in environmental advocacy, such as source reduction and practise a zero-waste lifestyle to collectively sustain the vitality of nature.
