The Jockey Club Elderly Facilities Modernisation Scheme was launched in 2012 with the aim of upgrading the physical settings and facilities of over 200 elderly centres in Hong Kong and enable the 200,000 elderly users to engage more fully in community life. The scheme was made possible with a HK$110 million donation from the Club, which supplements the HK$900 million Improvement Programme of Elderly Centres, earmarked from the Lotteries Fund also in 2012, to meet the needs of the rapidly ageing population.
